Inaugurated between 2011 and 2012, the Gallerie d'Italia in Milan houses two wonderful exhibition itineraries in their buildings between Piazza della Scala, Via Manzoni and Via Morone: a rich selection of nineteenth-century works of art, which includes also the collections of the Cariplo Foundation, and the works of the second half of the Italian twentieth century in the Cantiere del '900 section.

Teatro Alla Scala

The Teatro alla Scala in Milan, built on the ashes of the Teatro Ducale in 1776 at the wish of Maria Teresa of Austria and inaugurated in 1778, has become a hub of Italian opera thanks to Antonio Salieri's opera "Europa recognized". Located on the site of the church of Santa Maria alla Scala, the theater owes its name and neoclassical design to architect Giuseppe Piermarini. With the arrival of Rossini in 1812, La Scala established itself in melodrama, hosting works by Donizetti and Bellini which marked the beginning of a new era. The ballet tradition is enriched by the choreographies of Salvatore Viganò and Carlo Blasis. Verdi's era, inaugurated with "Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio" in 1839 and celebrated with "Nabucco" in 1842, inextricably linked the composer to the theatre, becoming a symbol of patriotism during the Risorgimento. Since 1951, the season has opened on December 7, in honor of Sant'Ambrogio. Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti and the foundation of the Filarmonica della Scala have contributed to the musical excellence of the theatre.
