History
It is undoubtedly the most anticipated debut of the year that of the Director of the Berliner Philharmoniker Kirill Petrenko in the La Scala pit. Having trained in a vast operatic repertoire during his years as director of the Komische Oper, Petrenko chooses the twilight sophistication of Strauss and Hofmannsthal's apologue on love and renunciation in eighteenth-century Vienna for his meeting with the Theater Orchestra. The show is the famous one by Harry Kupfer already seen at the Piermarini with the direction of Zubin Mehta, the cast features Krassimira Stoyanova, Günther Groissböck, Kate Lindsey, Sabine Devieilhe and Piero Pretti as the Italian tenor.
