After the trio of operas by Kurt Weill and the season opening tribute to Shostakovich, Music Director Maestro Chailly adds a new milestone to his Verdi journey, completing the survey of the composer's early works with this turning point. The triumph of Nebuchadnezzar at La Scala in 1842 marked the composer's definitive affirmation, but also the connection between Milanese theater (in the broader sense, Italian opera) and the nascent spirit of unity and the Risorgimento. The new production, which will feature the divertissements composed by Verdi for the 1848 revival in Brussels, marks the debut at La Scala of the now consolidated talent of Alessandro Talevi, a South African director who has rediscovered his Italian roots.
