A comfortable stay in the historic Grand Hotel Rimini, recognised as a national monument, is just the first step in a journey that will lead us to discover a different Rimini, in the footsteps of one of its most iconic characters. We are going to dedicate a whole day to Federico Fellini visiting Borgo San Giuliano and Castel Sismondo with the Fellini Museum.
We continue to follow the richness of this city leading us towards its art and history inside the City Museum. To complete our journey let's enjoy a night of great music at the renovated Teatro Galli with Sir Antonio Pappano and Beatrice Rana.
Arrival in Rimini by own means. Accomodation at
Grand Hotel Rimini – 5*L - https://www.grandhotelrimini.com/
This historic hotel was declared a national monument in 1984. Opened in 1908 on the seafront in Marina Centro, the Grand Hotel Rimini offers luxurious accommodation with all comforts: satellite TV and minibar, hairdryer, slippers and toiletries. The early 20th-century Art Nouveau style can be found in the original parquet flooring and in some original pieces of furniture such as desks, chairs and armchairs. We have reserved Executive rooms. Rooms will be available in the early afternoon.
3.30 pm: Meeting with the guide in the hotel lobby and departure by coach to the historic centre for "a glimpse of Rimini".
We will visit the city by foot with a focus on the Roman Rimini, starting from the Augustus Arch and going on with a visit to the City Museum, which houses Roman remains (Domus del Chirugo) and Malatesta's 14th century and 17th century works: from paintings by great masters such as Giovanni Bellini and Ghirlandaio, to sculptures by Agostino di Duccio, and prestigious medals by Pisanello and Matteo dè Pasti.
Return to the hotel by foot.
8 pm: Dinner at La Dolce Vita restaurant inside the hotel.
Breakfast in hotel.
Morning: Departure by coach to Santarcangelo di Romagna, an ancient medieval village 10 km north of Rimini. This is a place of great charm for its strong identity linked to the Romagna values, for its atmosphere of a large village shaped by a fair pace of life and for its architectural beauty made up of noble buildings, town houses, alleyways and small squares ensuring Santarcangelo the title of City of Art. Moreover, this is also a town that has been the birthplace of great artists, in particular Guido Cagnacci, an authentic master of seventeenth-century painting, and Tonino Guerra, a screenwriter for famous directors including Federico Fellini's Amarcord.
During our guided walk we will visit the Chiesa Collegiata where the altarpiece with Baby Jesus, St Joseph and St Eligius, signed and dated 1635 by Guido Cagnacci, is kept, and stop at the Stamperia Artigiana Marchi (Marchi Artisan Printworks), which still uses a 17th-century mangle, unique in the world for its size and weight.
1.00 pm: Lunch in Santarcangelo in a selected restaurant
At the end return to Rimini.
Afternoon: Visit to the "Treasures of Rimini".
A walking tour through the historic centre, discovering important city churches, which guard a rich heritage of art, with outstanding names such as Giotto and the masters of the 14th century Rimini, Piero della Francesca and Leon Battista Alberti, Guido Cagnacci and Antonio Trentanove.
The tour ends with a visit to the splendid ancient rooms of the Biblioteca Gambalunga.
